New Year’s Resolution

Thursday, January 5th, 2012

So I’ve not updated here in over a year. There are several reasons for that, the largest of which is that I stalled out in a major way on the weight loss. Well, I’m resetting some things, and one of the things I’m going to try to do better is chronicle my journey. My low point was 218 in September of 2010, in 2011 I bounced back up to 230, hovered around 225 for most of the year, and only now am coming back down towards the two-teens. I’m at 222.4 today with a trend line at 223.3 (trend line is determined by a 10% exponential smoothing of the daily weights). I started the year at 223.6 (the trend line from 2011), so I’m down slightly. I’m enrolled in a diet study and on a low-glycemic diet, since I started that I’m down slightly, so that’s good.

Overall, I’m feeling a lot healthier, feel like I’ve traded some fat weight for muscle weight, and am quite satisfied with how I’m starting look. Yes, I know it’s a bit vain, but part of the reason for starting to work out and work with a trainer was to improve my physical appearance, not just to lose weight. I’ve got more bulk and visible musculature in the biceps, quads, more definitions in the hamstrings and triceps, and I feel like my back and chest overall are more muscled and defined.

With all that said, I still want to lose a significant amount of weight – my goal weight is 170, so I have just over 50 lbs to go. My current goal is 200 lbs by my birthday, July 3. I’m going to be really disappointed in myself if I can’t make that.

Bad Day

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

Today has so far been a pretty bad day…  weight-wise, I’m only at 220.0 so I’m not entirely unhappy, just slightly unhappy.  I tried to play racquetball today at lunch, and everything felt stiff, sore, and unresponsive.  I was completely missing shots that I should have been hitting because I could move fast enough, and my legs are still sore from the effort.  Not to mention being drag-arse tired and feeling like I need a three-hour nap…

I’m so looking forward to the beer tasting at the Flying Saucer tonight.  It wil be a good night, no matter what the day has been.

Thursday gonna be hell

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

So I’m told I get to up my run from 2 laps to 3 on Thursday…  and since I’m barely making 2 right now, that’s gonna result in some major pain for me.  I’m doing fairly well, I think, but I’m not improving as rapidly as Meredith think I should be – or, perhaps more accurately, I don’t feel like I’m improving as rapidly as she seems to think I’m improving.  We’ll find out how I do on Thursday…

Late check-in

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

224.4 this morning – I seem to be stalled around 224, which is irking me.  Good workout this morning, if a very early one.  Took the day off to attend to some backed-up personal business, got things mostly settled with minor exceptions.  Finally broke down and got new glasses and an updates prescription – no major changes, just a very slight astimagtism in the left eye.  Right eye is 0.25 diopters – which is about 20/40, so that’s good.  Left eye is of course 2.00, which is somewhat worse than 20/400, but it’s been that way for overa decade, so at least it’s not getting worse.  Now to figure out dinner…

Late to the gate

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

Came in at 224.4 this morning – it’s all that gunk from Saturday night’s beer and last night’s Moe Monday deal – hoping tomorrow morning is lower.  Creeping up on the body fat %, too, so I definitely need to watch it.  Had a good workout with Meredith this morning, managed 1.5 laps around the building without stopping, the remaining .5 laps after a 1 minute breather.   I’m getting it together, just have a long ways to go yet.  Another workout with Meredith tomorrow night, then the usual Thursday morning – this week will be tiring.  Had Subway for lunch, splurged and got Coldstone ice cream because it was so freaking hot.  Ended up with a bit of a toothache, likely due to the ice cream, so we probably shouldn’t do that again.  Had a burger for dinner chatting with Samantha about her new firm’s new web site – the one I and my graphics elf created.  I’ll link to that as soon as they’ve got it up and runing on their server – don’t want to steal their thunder.  But now, it’s time to cash in for the night.

The Zombie Apocalypse

Monday, June 14th, 2010

I seem to have been signed up for a Zombie Race next year – some sort of obstacle race, the theme of which is escaping the zombie apocalypse.  It’s a shame the web site isn’t up yet (domain isn’t even purchased, it seems) – it has such awesome potential…

Thats just great…

My laptop went casters-up this morning, so Im having to write this on the iPod Touch. Failing hard drive. The good news is, 222.2 last night and 219.2 this morning.

Ugh

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

Went up to 224.4 last night.  Drat.  221.4 this morning.  Moving the wrong direction.  Had a good workout, but I’m feeling like I need to be ironed – I didn’t sleep well, and I may need to call it an half-day today…

Well, then…

Sunday, April 4th, 2010

So this weekend was both awesome and bad.  I made some self-discoveries that are stil disturbing me quite a bit, and it will likely take another week or two to fully get used to them.  Yeah, that was the bad part.  The awesome part was hanging with Meredith and Teresa at the Oxford for Aftershock.  The additional bad part was discovering just what a shin splint truly is – it still freaking hurts, and I didn’t do any exercise of anything today.  Mostly just slept and thought – a lot – trying to figure things out for myself.

Well, I did do a lot Saturday – workout with Meredith, runnign around on a bunch of errands, a few other things, then hanging out at the Oxford.  But still – ouch.  Shin splints bad.  At least it’s only one leg.

Now for the weigh-ins, which is what this blog is supposed to be about in the first place.  Yeah, not too good – 223.6 this morning, 224.4 this evening, and probably hovering high.  Didn’t weight myself last night, but I’m pretty sure it was at or just over (boo!) 225, so I really need to get back on track.  Hopefully this self-discovery thing doesn’t derail me too much, though I already know it will have an effect.  And not a good one.  Time to get back to bed, hopefully to fall asleep for real this time, so I can get to the gym tomorrow morning.  I *need* to keep up the workouts this week, or I’ll end up letting everything go to crap and ballooning back up to 230+.

Awesome day

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

Sunny, warm, top down all day.  I love days like today.  Had a decent workout this afternoon, if a bit shorter than it really should have been, but I hit all the highpoints.  Actually ran 0.2 miles on the treadmill (0.1 miles twice), which made me re0discover that I do *not* know how to run properly.  So that cardio, 10 mins on the stairevil, and a rotation on the weight machines.  Gonna play some racquetball with Jay (JasonF) a bit later today, meanwhile, just enjoying the weather.
